CASE STUDY: AMERICAN EXPRESS

As part of a worldwide advertising campaign, American Express USA commissioned me to photograph the Australian component of the project at the company’s Sydney headquarters. It was another repeat assignment from the United States, reflecting the confidence international clients place in photographers who can deliver consistent results.

The campaign celebrated the diversity of the American Express workforce and the company’s commitment to creating an inclusive workplace. Rather than using professional models, the photographs featured American Express employees in their everyday working environment, capturing genuine expressions and natural interactions.

Working within an established international creative brief, every photograph needed to complement the campaign’s visual style while retaining the individuality of each employee. By combining natural light with carefully controlled studio lighting, I created a clean, contemporary series of portraits that blended seamlessly with the worldwide campaign.

Producing natural-looking photographs in a busy corporate environment requires more than technical expertise. Building rapport quickly, working efficiently and putting people at ease allowed the assignment to proceed smoothly while capturing authentic images that reflected the company’s culture and values.

Following delivery of the photographs, the Picture Editor wrote:

“What a pleasure it is to have my faith restored by a photographer who really gets this project… lovely light, beautifully shot, natural, clean… gorgeous!”
